Why the parties? Why the democrats and republicans? It stands to reason that if we didn’t have two sides, there wouldn’t be a fight. Seems to make sense right? Maybe, if we got rid of it all, there would be peace. Ha. Never happen. Why? Same reason there’re two sides in a war. Each is fighting for their own beliefs, land, or something for their own gain. Each with a passion beyond understanding. A passion that overcomes pain, fatigue, hunger, and imprisonment even when it would be so easy to succumb. If you took away both sides from the war, there wouldn’t be peace, there would be . In that scenario, everyone would be fighting for their own combination of beliefs and there would be a million sides being fought for. On the other hand there’re a lot of people out there who want to remain ‘neutral’. Well, that’s all fine and good. Maybe they don’t want to get involved, maybe they’re pacifists. “War is a dreadful thing, and I can respect an honest pacifist,” says C.S. Lewis, “though I think he is entirely mistaken.” But the problem lies with the people who wish to remain, not neutral, but in the middle. The whishy-washies. You see, there’s an inherent two (or more) sides to every principle in creation. In the simplest example of these two sides, justice is not merely “the quality of being just” it’s also “not the quality of being unjust”. There’s synonyms and antonyms, good and evil, black and white. In party politics the gray area is reserved for neutrals, that is, people who don’t care about the issues of today. You cannot be gray and voice your opinion, on say, abortion any more than a drop of gray paint can turn an entire vat of white into gray. Just as in a marriage commitment, yes, there will be things you dislike about your party. But also as in a marriage commitment, it’s a pledge, on your honor, til do you part (not so extreme in politics) to hang in there. And if you don’t like how your party’s being run then, by golly, change it. It’s your party. If you think we should take a different stand on an issue, then stand up and yell it to the world. There’s no one stopping you. Who decided that democrats were pro-welfare and republicans pro-life? You don’t like it? Fix it. Just don’t sit in the mush-pot and be wishy-washy all your life.

PS As always, this is just my opinion…
